Kurtis grew up in Sherwood Park and played his minor hockey in the SPKAC system. He enjoyed a successful bantam AAA season with his team, which ultimately led him to being drafted 25th overall in the WHL Bantam draft by the Portland Winterhawks. Making his WHL debut as a 15 year old, Kurtis went on to play 4.5 seasons with the Winterhawks and finished his 20 year old season with the Kamloops Blazers. After completing his 5 seasons in the WHL, Kurtis still ranks 1st in games played by a goaltender in the WHL’s history at 245, 2nd in minutes at 13,708, and 3rd in most saves at 6,908. Kurtis chose to utilize the WHL scholarship program and attended the University of Alberta from 2010 – 2015. He was very fortunate to be part of such a successful program, winning 4 league titles and 2 national championships in his time with the Golden Bears.
Upon graduation, Kurtis was provided the opportunity to get into coaching. Under the mentorship of Dustin Schwartz, Kurtis assumed the role as Director of Goalie Development at the Vimy Ridge Academy in Edmonton as well as the Goalie Development Coach of the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL. Kurtis has worked with the Spruce Grove Saints in the past and is currently with the Sherwood Park Crusaders of the AJHL. His coaching extends to many minor hockey associations in and around the Edmonton area.

-Quality over Quantity – Kurtis prefers to work with less goalies so that each athlete receives more one-on-one instruction.
-Teaching and Coaching Environment – Versus a rep based style of coaching.
-Get What You Pay For – Kurtis will always be the lead instructor at his sessions. He will not send people to do the work for him or pass you onto someone else.
-Building Relationships – This is Kurtis’ passion, He loves working with motivated athletes. One of his biggest rewards is the relationships he gets to build with the goalies and their families as everyone works to achieve their maximum potential

Summer Camps: All camps are invite only – Please fill out the following contact information to be considered for upcoming camps and to receive additional information. Summer camps take place every July with a few different options based on age and level of play. Camps are strictly based around an on ice coaching and teaching environment, with a few off ice activities planned.
Spring Break Camps: All camps are invite only – Please fill out the following contact information to be considered for upcoming camps and to receive additional information. This camp is perfect for goalies looking for some coaching prior to Alberta Cup, Prospects Cup, or the Alberta Winter Games tryouts. Midget aged goalies also use this camp to get ready for AJHL spring tryouts.
Private Consulting: During the season and prior to tryout camps in August and September Kurtis spends time doing private consulting. These sessions are typically 1 on 1 or 2 on 1 in ratio and will be tailored to each goalies needs. Please contact Kurtis for more information on availability.
